😊 The Secret to Happiness and How You Can Find it πŸ˜Š

Ok so, it’s normal to not be happy where you currently are and you think that you’ll only be happy when you have achieved your goals and manifestations. But, this doesn’t align. Why? Because you’re thinking that you’re only going to be happy when you have the “perfect” body, or when you have a million bucks in your account, or when you’ve got a promotion at work – this isn’t the road to happiness. The key is to learn to be happy now with what you have and where you are. Happiness starts from within. It starts within you. No matter your circumstances, you have to be happy and grateful in order to receive the things that you’re dreaming about.

Being in the present and NOT being on autopilot is a sure way to harness your inner being, to be aware of what is happening in front of you and taking note of your feelings. Are your feelings happy? Or, are they sad? Neutral? Could you be happier? We all could be, but finding gratitude in the smallest of things in everyday life will guarantee you a lifetime of happiness. It might take a bit of work at first, a little bit of effort and you may have to fake it for a while (I did) but once you realise how much you have to be thankful for in your everyday life, it will put a smile on your face and that creates the feeling of happiness. Overtime, it becomes a more permanent state of your mind, feelings and body.

How did I become happy?

Happiness to me has always been a thing I thought I could never have in my life. I was always on the receiving end of bad news, from deaths in my family, trauma, illnesses and real sluggish energy, I thought I wasn’t deserving of any good things in my life and so bad things kept happening to me. I was always focusing on the negative side of my life and what was happening. I’ve always been a bubbly person but deep down, I was sad for many years. It took me a while to get to this point so I can assure you that this is not an overnight thing, things take time but I questioned myself after the final straw of something very bad happening to me and my family and I asked myself the question, do you want to be happy or not? I knew from within, that this happiness is going to come from me – no one else. It was like a switch in my mind that just flicked on.

It was about 3 years ago that things started to change for me. I’m not saying I haven’t had any obstacles during these 3 years but my reaction to such things has changed and this is one element of becoming happy. Knowing you’re safe, knowing that certain feelings and situations are temporary can help you react differently to things that get thrown your way. I started to practice gratitude, this was on and off for a few years but this year, it’s been a huge game changer for me. Since the start of the year, I watched the movie ‘The Secret’, and this time round watching it, that was the flip of the switch. From that moment on, I decided to change my life for the better and I’ve been practicing gratitude daily ever since. My life has positively changed and amazing things have been happening. By practicing gratitude, I’ve created more space in my life to receive more good things. Being grateful for where I am now, for my road and journey that I’ve been on up to this day, for all the challenges that I’ve faced and for all the trauma that I’ve overcome.

Happiness is not ready made. It comes from your own actions

It comes from you. Happiness starts with you. Happiness starts with your feelings. Remember, you cannot be happy and sad at the same time. Positivity is far greater than negativity. Choose happiness. Choose positive thoughts. Allow space in your life to welcome more love and abundance in your life. If you practice gratitude, the rest of the good will follow. If you choose to remain negative, then expect the same to form in your life. It’s up to you. The Law of Attraction is always working, whether you’re feeling down or feeling happy – the universe responds to your feelings. Energy goes where attention flows.

What can you do to feel happy?

If you want to be happy, be!

  1. Practise gratitude. Get your journal out, and start writing all the things in your life currently that make you happy. This could be your family, your friends, your job and income, your relationships, your morning coffee, your morning walk. Anything! You can start this by writing statements such as, “I’m so incredibly grateful for my morning coffee today,” or, “I’m deeply thankful for all the love shared between my family and I,” etc.
  2. Exercise. Exercise releases those happy chemicals in your brain, these are called Endorphins. Try going for a walk tomorrow morning and listen to your favourite music, you’ll start feeling happier, trust me!
  3. Think good thoughts. We’re only human and it is natural for us to have negative thoughts but you can stop these in their tracks. Practice becoming aware of your thoughts and as soon as you hear something negative in your mind, consciously state 3 things that you’re grateful for. This will distract you from these negative thoughts.
  4. Pick up the phone. Talk to your closest ones, have a good old catch up and a laugh.
  5. Do things that you enjoy. If you’ve a hobby that you haven’t done in a while, pick it up from where you left it, get stuck in again and do what you love.
  6. Listen to some good music that is upbeat, happy and has positive messages in the lyrics.
  7. Journal. Aside from writing down your gratitude, you can journal your gratitude or simply record how your day went. If it didn’t go the way you want it to go, write down how you wanted it to go anyway. This is a form of written visualisation or scripting, and what you see in your mind, you’ll hold in your hand so visualise your happiness, visualise what you want to happen.
  8. Eat healthily. Food has a big impact on our moods. If we eat junk food everyday, well that will make us feel sluggish because it’s not good for us, it’s bad and full of chemicals. Swap your junk food for a balanced diet, you’ll have more energy and this will uplift your mood.
  9. Dance even if you don’t know how to dance, that part doesn’t matter. Again, the same as exercise, you will release the happy chemicals in your brain which will instantly make you feel better. Have some fun.
  10. Visit your friends and family. Due to the pandemic, we have been restricted in seeing our loved ones. For me, I haven’t seen any of my family since before the pandemic as they live at a distance from me but as soon as I’m able to visit them, I’m there. It’s so refreshing to be with others and it balances your inner being.

The above are only suggestions, so do what makes you happy, whatever that is – create those good feelings within you. 😊
